Skincare and sports

Working out is beneficial for both your mental and physical health. But remember that it is also important to take care of your skin before, during and after your work-out.

BEFORE

Cleansing

If you’re about to head to a workout, it’s best to do so with a clean, makeup-free face. Before you go for a work-out, wash your face properly. During your work-out, your skin should be able to breathe. Make-up and occlusive creams may clog your pores and cause unwanted breakouts.  Therefore, cleanse your face by using a mild oil or milk, followed by a water based cleanser (exfoliant, tonic, micellar water…).

DURING

Do not touch your face

If you go to the gym, try to not touch your face too much. Gym objects or gym equipment can form a breeding ground for bacteria. If you often touch your face or body during your workout, the bacteria may be transfered directly to your skin, which may lead to breakouts. So, it is better not to touch your skin when exercising. It is also a good idea to wipe down the equipment with antibacterial wipes before using.

Sunscreen

If you’re going for a work-out outside, don’t forget to apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen of at least SPF 30. It’s crucial to protect your skin from sun damage to prevent skin aging, dehydration and skin cancer.  For the same reason it’s better to avoid exercising outside between 10.30 a.m. and 3 p.m. The ultraviolet rays, which cause sunburn, are strongest during this time period.

AFTER

Cleansing

After sporting, it is very important to cleanse your skin to remove sweat and bacteria that accumulated on your skin. Water alone is sometimes not enough to wash away dirt or sweat. Again, use a mild cleansing milk ( e.g Nomige 2-in-1 cleanser) to remove the dirt combined with a  water based cleanser (e.g. Nomige exfoliating tonic) that kindly removes dead skin cells.

Try to cleanse your face as soon as possible to avoid breakouts afterwards. Cleansing the skin quickly is also helpful to cool off the skin and prevent breakage of blood vessels.

Hydration

After cleansing your face it is important to rehydrate your body and skin, as we lose a lot of water (sweat) during a work-out. One the one hand, you need hydration from the inside by drinking lots of water. On the other hand, the skin can be rehydrated by applying a moisturizer after your workout. Examples of ingredients with moisturizing properties are: glycerin, sorbitol, propylene glycol, hyaluronic acid, urea…

Rehydrating your skin is crucial when you exercise outside (running cycling, skiing, ...). External factors such as cold and wind can dry out the skin even more.

Nomige is an exclusive line of 4 tailor-made products; a day cream, a day serum, a night cream and a night serum. Each cream is formulated specifically for your skin and contains non-occlusive ingredients, allowing your skin to breathe during a workout. The cream comes in a small, airless packaging, which ensures easy and hygienic use. You can take your Nomige creams easily with you in your Nomige pouch when you go for a workout.

In addition, Nomige offers 2 cleansing products (a moisturizing cleansing milk and an exfoliating tonic), which are perfect for a mild cleansing of your skin before and after sports.
